Speech Day 2022

On 8 December, the graduates of the Class of 2022 officially joined the alumni ranks on Speech Day as they walked up the stage to receive their graduation certificates in the school hall.

The joyful event was joined by many guests, alumni and parents to celebrate the achievements of our graduates. Most prominent among them were our guests of honour, the Rt. Revd. Matthias Der, Bishop of the Diocese of Hong Kong Island, and his wife, Mrs. Rachel Der.

After offering a warm welcome to the congregation, the Principal, Mr. Dennis Yuen, highlighted in his report the achievements of the Class of 2022 in both the HKDSE and IAL (International A-Levels) examinations, as well as other major prizes and awards obtained by our students over the past academic year. Mr. Yuen urged the graduates to always keep their moral compass front and centre while navigating through the challenges which lie ahead of them at university and beyond.

In the subsequent address by Bishop Der, he encouraged the graduates to be grateful for the privilege of having received a fine education at St. Paul’s College. Bishop Der also advised them to pay it forward with these succinct words: “With the privilege comes the responsibility”, since they, as alumni, now carry the responsibility of giving back to the alma mater, and to the community.

As Speech Day came to a close, our College orchestra performed Franz von Suppé’s Light Cavalry Overture. This uplifting piece of music provided a fitting end to the graduation evening with its distinct fanfare of the trumpets and horns motivating our graduates to carry on, and soldier on, as they embark on a new chapter of their lives.
