Staff Development Day: A Day with Nature at Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden

To promote team building and wellness among our teachers, a visit to Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden (KFBG) was organised on 3 October.

The visit provided our teachers not only with a welcome break from their hectic teaching schedules but also an opportunity to unwind and meditate in nature.

Under the guidance of Mr. Wander Meijer, Executive Director of KFBG, and his staff, the teachers took a morning meditative walk in the woods to practise mindfulness for inner peace.

In the afternoon, the teachers took part in parallel breakout activities, ranging from yoga to nature-inspired mindfulness drawing, to guided flora and fauna nature walks. Among these activities, the flora conservation tour was the most popular and the participating teachers learned how to re-pot an orchid properly.

Not all the activities were quiet and contemplative; the most challenging of all was the hiking trip, where the participants needed to brave the challenges of trudging up and down the hills in the heat of the day.

The Staff Development Day enabled our teachers to practise mindfulness techniques for mental wellness, as well as to learn more about the local animal and plant life. It proved to be a helpful and healthy experience for them all.
